  53. Advanced Cataloguer (A CAT) is an easy to use tool with
  54. explorer-like interface which allows you to catalog the drives:
  55. floppy disks, hard drives (including network ones), optical
  56. disks, CD-ROMs, ZIP disks and other media.
  57.  
  58. With A CAT you are able to:
  59.         - organize volumes, folders and files into keywords;
  60.         - add comment and note to each file, folder and disk;
  61.         - search for files/folders using file name (with
  62.           wildcards) or your own comments, notes;
  63.         - generate reports,
  64.         - delete individual files and folders from the catalogs;
  65.         - ... and much more.
  66. A CAT doesn't use any database engines and so very fast.
  67. The database generated by A CAT is very compact.
  68. A CAT has a user-friendly and easy-to-use interface.

  70. Installation

  73. Important! If you've got A CAT not from our web page, but from
  74. the other source (magazine CD or some software library), please
  75. visit our home page - you'll probably find the later version;
  76.  
  77. We recommend you to uninstall the previous version of A CAT (if
  78. you have one) from your computer before installing this one. You
  79. can do this via "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel applet. If
  80. you'll get the notification that the A CAT folder is not empty, be
  81. careful when removing it: it may contain the .acat files (the
  82. databases created by A CAT) you may wish to keep. Uninstall, by the
  83. way, will not remove the options you set in older version, so
  84. the new version, being installed, will have exactly the same
  85. settings as before.

  87. To install A CAT, just run the "Setup.exe" and follow the
  88. instructions. You'll need to select the target directory
  89. and the components to install.
  90.  
  91. Note: the Advanced Cataloguer may not run correctly if the new
  92. version of common control library (comctl32.dll) is not
  93. installed; the program requires version 4.70 or later (version
  94. 4.72 is recommended). This new version is already available in
  95. Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 and Windows NT 4.0; you may also
  96. have it if you're using Internel Explorer 3.x or later. The
  97. installation program of the Advanced Cataloguer checks what
  98. version do you have, and it'll ask you to update this file if
  99. it is old. If it will happen, just run the "41Comupd.exe" to
  100. update your system; reboot the computer and start the setup
  101. program again. For your convenience, we're distributing
  102. "41comupd.exe" together with the Advanced Cataloguer setup
  103. files.

  126. Before you contact us, please do the following:

  128. - Be sure that you're doing everything right. We all make
  129.   mistakes sometimes... Be attentive.
  130. - Visit A CAT home page in the Internet at
  131.   http://acat.hypermart.net. It's a good chance that you'll
  132.   find the newer version of A CAT there. If the serious bug has
  133.   been found in the program, but the new version is not ready yet,
  134.   we make the hot fix for it.

  141.   - Advanced Cataloguer version (from "About" dialog)
  142.   - Advanced Cataloguer serial number (if you're a registered user)
  143.   - Windows 95/98/NT version (including service packs and other
  144.     fixes installed), US or international, OEM or not
  145.   - computer information: CPU type and speed, installed memory
  146.   - description of your problem (as much information as possible
  147.     to retrieve the problem)

  149. Note: you may want to read the "How to Determine the Version of

  154. In order to get the complete computer information (working under
  155. Windows 95), open the Control Panel, click on "System" applet and
  156. press "Print" on "Device Manager" tab.
